Poor design, crappy plastic breaks on it. I used it for a month and then the clutch went out on it. Like other raters, my chain won't move now so I have to go out and buy another chain saw.

I bought this chainsaw at Home Depot in 2006 on a black Friday sale for 0. After using it for ten minutes, the starter mechanism crapped out. Sometimes it helps to knock on it but most of the time I have to take that part apart to make it usable anymore. After about an hour of use the carburetor died. A plug inside the carb came out and it could not be fixed. I ordered a brand new carburetor for it but it still does not run. STAY AWAY from this tool!

I just bought this saw, it started and ran fine. I took it the wood pile out back to try it out; it cut the smaller pieces alright but when I introduced it to a larger cut of wood (14" dia. pine), it just didn't have the power to go through. It bogged down and did not perform at all.

I then proceeded to drain the oil and gas and take it back as it is not suitable for my needs.

For light use, I think this saw would probably suffice. For anything above light use, you may consider investing the money in a more substantial saw......which coinicidently is what I'm going to have to do.

I have had a 16" Ranger for over 5 years and am pleased with the performance. We had a destructive winter storm here in NY and I needed to cut up trees and tree limbs that had fallen. I put a new chain on as the old one was dull (and I didn't want to spend the time sharpening. The chainsaw worked fine, strong and easy starting. I agree with the comments about chain oil usage. I bought a less viscous oil at Home Depot than I had been using and found that I was really going through the oil (Echo). This is OK as it protects better. My unit was purchased new and came with sharpening files (never used!), tool and case. This is good for medium duty. I would purchase again.

Pay the extra money - Keith Johnson -
I just bought a Homelite chain saw at Home Depot. It lasted for an hour on a big tree I was cutting then just died. Before it died, the chain flew off four times even when it was tight. Also, the muffler is in a bad spot and I burnt my finger trying to fix the chain. Needless to say, it went back to Home Depot and I purchased a Echo chain saw. Works like a dream. It was an extra 100 bucks but you can tell and see the difference in quality and performance. Also the muffler is hidden and it is super easy to handle. Also quiet. Lesson learned again. Do not be a cheap skate. Pay the extra money and get the better quality item.

Used chainsaw 1 time for about 2 hours. Now to start the spark plug has too be removed, pull the cord 15-20 times & replace plug. Then it will start but only run for 5-10 minutes & process has to be repeated. Lesson learned. Do not buy cheap reconditioned lawn equipment. Bought this after reading reviews. This chainsaw sucks! It can barely cut a 2x4, and could not cut the wood that I tried to cut it with. A circular saw cuts better than this piece of junk. Don't waste your money on this, or at least try a higher hp saw. The chain keeps coming off too, and there is no good way to tighten it. And it is tough to keep the safety button pressed while holding the button to run the chainsaw. If it would cut wood, I might have kept it. Sent it back for a refund. Bought the Earthwise 16" electric saw , same price, 12 ampEarthwise CS30016 16-Inch 12 amp Electric Chain Saw. It got the job done!
